While we stayed at a camp in the jungle, we went on safaris, which were boat rides on the river. We went looking for crocodiles! Two times a day, at dawn and after sunset, we got into a wooden boat, and rode up and down the Kinabatangan river, a river that crocodiles live in.

Is it a crocodile's head or is it a log of wood?

We looked for crocodiles on the shore and in the river. On the sandy shore, we looked for the bumpy-looking, patterned tail of the crocodile. Usually when the boat came close to shore, the crocodile quickly slipped into and then under the water. The crocodiles were fast! In the brown river water, we looked for the top of the crocodile's head, which sometimes looked like a log of wood. Usually when the boat came close to the crocodile, the crocodile quickly sunk its head completely under water.

Looking for crocodiles was most exciting when it was dark at night. When a bright light was shone along the river, the light reflected in the crocodile's eyes which made ... the crocodile's eyes look red! The boat then drove towards the crocodile by aiming towards the 2 red lights. Sometimes we were lucky, and we saw the whole crocodile, from the tip of its snout to the end of its tail.
